Ky County Formation Maps

Our ancestors often switched counties without moving. The county moved underneath them. For example Floyd County once covered a large part of eastern Ky. Lands that were deeded originally in Floyd County later ended up in Johnson County or Lawrence County.

The same applies for Magoffin and Morgan. So keep this in mind when referencing locations for ancestors. The old homeplace may have been in Floyd or Montgomery County in the early 1800's but is now in Morgan County. The following maps may help.
