Travel

When I was a kid, my family liked to travel across the country. First in a slide in truck camper and later in a 5th wheel camper. My fond memories of those trips are probably the reason I like to travel so much as an adult. For what ever reason, at about the age of 10 I started keeping a simple travel diary with major events of each day and where we camped each night. I continued this as an adult.

The next two menu items on the left are just some fun things I did with Google Maps.

I put together a map showing the campgrounds or motels where I have stayed during most of my major trips across the country. In the early days my diary is sometimes not too clear so I had to do a little guessing. Later as an adult and especially after I purchased a GPS, my accuracy improved.

There is not much point to the map except it's fun to see where I have been. Each icon on the map can be clicked and the name of the campground/hotel, the date I was there and the address and accuracy of the data will be displayed. After clicking the icon, click the Zoom In link to see a close up view of the area. That is really fun if you change the Google Map to a satellite or hybrid view.

The other menu item displays photos linked to a Google Map. Just hover the mouse pointer over the camera icons. The scroll wheel on your mouse can be used to zoom in and out. Clicking on a camera icon will display a larger version of the photo.
