This is a list of free or open source software I use and recommend.

  • True Crypt  disk encryption for super secret stuff
  • Virtual Dimension   Multiple virtual desktops
  • Notepad++   is a great text editor for programs or general use
  • 7-Zip  is a WinZip replacement to handle ZIP files as well as UNIX tar files on a Windows machine
  • Stickies  Post-It Notes for your PC
  • Password Safe  to remember all those passwords
  • PAF  is a simple, solid genealogy program
  • Sourceforge.net  1000's of open source programs
  • FileMenu Tools  For the smart file renamer plus more
  • ExifTool Dumps digital camera Exif data, renames files based on the data. There is nothing it can not do.
