This is a list of free or open source software I use and recommend.
- Firefox for web browsing
- Thunderbird for email
- Ubuntu for Linux

- Google Picasa for photo enhancements
- Open Office is a Microsoft Office replacement
- Audacity for recording and editing audio
- Abyss is a simple web server for your PC. Handy if you get really involved with HTML and building a web site
- VideoLan will play just about any video file
- True Crypt disk encryption for super secret stuff
- Virtual Dimension Multiple virtual desktops
- Notepad++ is a great text editor for programs or general use
- 7-Zip is a WinZip replacement to handle ZIP files as well as UNIX tar files on a Windows machine
- Stickies Post-It Notes for your PC
- Password Safe to remember all those passwords
- PAF is a simple, solid genealogy program
- Sourceforge.net 1000's of open source programs
- FileMenu Tools For the smart file renamer plus more
- ExifTool Dumps digital camera Exif data, renames files based on the data. There is nothing it can not do.
